A Tribute to Dr. Donald Cope

Posted in Uncategorized by Evodna on the June 11th, 2006

Today, Heaven welcomed a new resident, Dr. Don Cope. I’m sure when he arrived, he must have been amazed at how perfectly straight everyone’s teeth were. No doubt, there were those present whose teeth were a product of the skill (if not gift) of Dr. Cope. No doubt as the months go by, God will surely show Don pictures of the patients he left behind, and how perfectly straight their teeth have become thanks to him. This may sound somewhat a cliche, but Don gave his patients not just a great smile, but something much deeper. For many, the smile created by Don Cope became the pathway leading from being introverted and ashamed, to being confident and self-assured.

The last time I saw Don, he told me the chemotherapy wasn’t helping him, and was only making his life miserable. He told me that he was going to work until he couldn’t physically work any longer. After that, he said that he was going home to work in his garden and enjoy whatever time he had left. He also looked into my mouth and said, “You know Evodna, we’re not supposed to be able to do with an adult’s mouth what we’ve done with yours.” I just smiled and said, “It’s because of my prayer, and your gift!” What a great guy. What an awesome “artist”.

I will miss you Don. But I’ll see you again - with a big bright smile!

Thank you Eddy Shell

EddyShell.jpgKudos to Bossier Parish Police Juror Eddy Shell (and for the other members) for not giving rubber stamp approval to a business which was requesting a B3 Liquor License. Dr. Shell questioned whether or not the new Johnny’s Pizza on North Airline Drive was asking for the B3 in order to serve hard liquor or beer. Similar concern was expressed by Rick Avery. Choosing to vote on the side of caution, the Police Jury voted to table the matter until these questions could be answered.

This particular Johnny’s Pizza is located almost directly across the street from the Christview Christian Church. Given that all of the other Johnny’s Pizza locations in Bossier Parish have video poker machines, it is likely that the one across from the church will have the video poker gambling machines as well. Liquor and video poker - now that’s a great neighbor for a church.
